How do I decide whether I need access to CNF, Biotech Imaging, or both?
The Cornell Visualization and Imaging Partnership (CVIP) allows researchers to discover and access tools and services at both the Cornell NanoScale Facility and the Biotech Imaging Facility via a cross-center collaboration at Cornell.
What tools/processes do I need?
If you plan to ONLY use tools from the list of Biotech imaging tools, then you only need access to the Biotech Imaging facility. If you then need to use tools in the CNF labs, you will be required to onboard with a CNF project.

Steps to Getting Started
Existing or Active CNF User
To Access Biotech Imaging
- Email Biotech Imaging to discuss your project.
- Be sure to indicate if your work at Biotech Imaging is related to your existing CNF project(s).
To Access CNF
- No additional orientation is needed.

To Access CNF
- Email the CNF User Program outlining your research ideas.
- PI submits a Project Proposal if starting a new CNF project
- Users external to Cornell without a Cornell netid need to obtain a Cornell GuestID . Users external to Cornell with an inactive Cornell netid need to first email CNF Computing to reactivate their netid.
- Submit a New User Application form to be added to the new or to an existing CNF project
- Be sure to indicate if your work at CNF is related to your work at Biotech Imaging.
- Complete CNF safety orientation
- Once all orientation is complete, contact tool owners for individual tool trainings
